All power plants stopped “unexpectedly” on an island with over 3 million inhabitants

Major power out
Over one million homes were left without electricity in Puerto Rico due to the “unexpected” stop of all power plants, a new massive current interruption in this American territory in the Caribbean with 3.2 million inhabitants who are constantly facing such faults, AFP reports.
“We are facing a massive breakdown throughout the island due to the unexpected stop of all the power plants,” wrote on X General, one of the electricity suppliers.
According to the website of another electricity supplier on the island, the Luma, about 1.1 million customers were left without current Wednesday before 20:00 GMT.
About three hours earlier, at 12:40 local time, “an incident was recorded that affects the distribution of electricity throughout the island,” Luma said on X, ensuring that he works for “identifying the cause of the incident and restoring the service safely”.
Many inhabitants of Puerto Rico spent the New Year in the dark because of another major current feathers, a phenomenon that has become commonplace since passing a devastating hurricane that hit the island in 2017.
