The new electric tariffs will catch a slip. The government plans to delay them by three months

The new electricity tariffs for households would apply on October 1, and not on July 1 – according to the assumptions published on Monday to amend the Act on the protection of energy consumers.

In accordance with the assumptions published in the list of legislative and program works of the Council of Ministers, it is expected to shift the beginning of the changed tariffs to electricity to October 1 this year. Currently applicable provisions assume that sellers ex officio are to submit applications to the President of the Energy Regulatory Office for a change in tariffs at such a date that they can enter into force from July 1.

As the Ministry of the Climate emphasizes in the justification of the proposal, postponing the date of entry into force of the changed tariffs for electricity will allow you to fully reflect the market conditions in these tariffs. MKIŚ pointed out that current wholesale prices at the level of PLN 400-500 per MWh “indicate the space to reduce prices in tariffs for electricity sellers who act as sellers from the office for households.”

According to current regulations, by the end of September 2025, households have the right to use electricity prices, frozen at PLN 500. The government has not yet decided whether it will extend the maintenance of the frozen price. (PAP)
