A truck with illegal cigarettes fell. The State Treasury almost lost PLN 7 million

Tira on Lithuanian registrations loaded nearly 6 million illegal cigarettes was detained by officers of the Customs and Tax Office in Giebułtów near Krakow. The losses of the Treasury on the excise tax were estimated at almost PLN 7 million. The driver will be responsible for a tax offense.

A spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Krakow, Oliwia Bożek-Michalec, announced on Friday that illegal transport was detained on Wednesday during the control of carriers, conducted at the service of travelers in Giebułtów.

In a truck with Lithuanian license plates, officers of the Customs and Tax Office revealed a charge of cigarettes without Polish tax stamps of excise duty. On 123 pallets there were packages containing a total of almost 6 million cigarettes. This exposed the State Treasury to the depletion of public law receivables in excise duty at a total of almost PLN 7 million.

The officers detained the truck driver of Lithuania Andrius L., to whom the District Prosecutor's Office in Miechów presented allegations regarding the tax offense. The court applied temporary arrest against the suspect for a period of three months. (PAP)
