Victor Ponta explains why he told the episode when he chose to protect Belgrade with the price of being flooded Romanian villages

Victor Ponta, an independent candidate for the presidential elections, explained, on Friday, in a Facebook post, that he chose to tell the 2014 event, from the mandate of prime minister, as he learned that Bogdan Popescu, “the man who controls the millions of euros in each campaign”, and Anca Alexandrescu, his former press counselor, The “digging” of the subject – and prepared to show victims from another period and from another area of the country (Gorj – Vâlcea), only to attack me in the big week! “.

In his post, the former PSD prime minister distributed a video from 2021, from an interview with Ion Cristoiu in which he had talked about the 2014 episode, when he opened the Iron Gates dam to avoid flooding the Belgrade even if the villages in Romania were flooded. Ponta, who subsequently received the citizenship of Serbia, argues that the measure did not endanger any inhabitants in the Riveran area of the Danube and has not led to the significant impairment of any household.

“Earlier this week, I learned from an important journalist that Bogdan Popescu (the man who controls the millions of euros of the PSD in each campaign) and Anca Alexandrescu (who, in 2014, was my press counselor) works at the” digging “of the subject – and they prepared to show victims from another period and from another area,” declared Victor Ponta in the post on Friday.

He claims that he “considered it stupidity” to be attacked on this topic.

“Because there was really no victim at the Danube, and I, then, I made a human and political gesture: I helped Serbia and saved hundreds or thousands of people! For this reason, I resumed the story at Dan Andronic (knowing how much Anca Alexandrescu hates him), being convinced that they will stop the attack, seeing that they were.”

Ponta claims that the “operation” against him “had to be triggered”, as “the money was spent”.

“Anca Alexandrescu had already received almost 500,000 euros for a show with Crin Antonescu! And Bogdan Popescu (with the agreement of Marcel Ciolacu) had paid significant amounts in all the media and online; including those fakes with the deaths from the floods (which, obviously, were not from the Danube and from the accused period); Which, yesterday and today, gave about 200 million messages on all the accounts in Romania with the text “Ponta is a traitor” and “Ponta killed 4 people at the floods”, added the presidential candidate.

Victor Ponta said that the “assault” aimed at him “was at maximum intensity”, but “it is about to fail”.

“Although Assault Popescu-Alexandrescu was at maximum intensity, there were many analysts and journalists who are not bribed by the PSD money. Although they are not at all supporters of Ponta, they felt that something is” unclean “and they expressed their circumspection. But those whose judgment was darkened. counterattacati;

The Flood Episode of 2014

In a podcast moderated by Robert Turcescu, Ponta-an independent candidate for the presidential elections, with the slogan “Romania in the first place”-he said he has Serbian citizenship because in 2014 he “helped with an extraordinary thing”. Specifically, he said that he gave “order over the Romanian structures to open the valley from the Iron Gates”, so that Belgrade would not be flooded. Asked why that disposition was needed by him, Ponta said: “because the Romanian side is flooded.”

“And he was flooded. But I talked to ISU (n.red.: Inspectorates for emergencies), I moved people, I gave damages quickly. You did not find anything, the press,” Ponta detailed.

According to the controversy generated in the public space, Ponta returned with details on Facebook, where he claims that no resident in the Riveran area of the Danube was in danger and no household was severely affected after the floods of 2014 when as a prime minister he decided to “order over the Romanian structures to open the Valea de Iron”.

“We have also saved thousands of human lives in the neighboring country and friend Serbia, as a good neighbor and a good Christian should do! The criminals who say we had to let people die so that we do not affect a few hectares of field have neither the heart nor mind!”, Victor Ponta said.

What did the former collaborators say

Former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, who held the position of Deputy Prime Minister when Victor Ponta was at the forefront of the Government of Romania, claimed that the current independent candidate for Cotroceni “distorts the truth to his advantage” and “suffer from mythomania”.

Dragnea believes that the arguments made by Ponta to justify Serbian citizenship have the role of hiding the real reason, namely that it was the “reserve plan” if he was sentenced to court.

And the former Minister of Water, Doina Pană, said that the situation that Victor Ponta talks about was not, claiming that Romania had to open the Iron Gates, as the current candidate independent of the presidency said.

Hidroelectrica transmitted on Thursday in a press release that the exploitation of iron gates in May 2014 complied with the conventions and legislation in force.

Ciolacu asked Ponta withdrawal from the presidential race

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu asked his former collaborator on Thursday to withdraw from the presidential race, after Victor Ponta claimed that, in 2014, from his capacity as prime minister of Romania, he agreed “to flood Romanian villages to save foreign cities”.

For his part, the independent candidate for the presidential elections said on Thursday that Marcel Ciolacu should retire “urgently” from the position of prime minister, otherwise he will give him outside, as soon as he arrives in Cotroceni.

In reply, the PSD leader returned on Friday morning with a new message, also on Facebook, his former honorary counselor, Victor Ponta, “swears and wants to take down” the government of which he was a part, as he did in the past and with other PSD executives, after the political formation received back and gave him the chance to run.
