“Ahmad has atone for his ten -year sentence and is a free person now. Israeli authorities have imposed family restrictions, such as organizing a welcome ceremony for AHMAD or talking to the press“Said Khaled Zabarqa, his lawyer, for CNN.
Ahmad Manasra returned with his family, Khaled Zabarqa told his lawyer.
Ahmad Manasra was arrested and incarcerated in 2015 after being caught, along with his cousin, Hassan, who stabbed two Israelis in East Jerusalem. His cousin was shot dead, while Manasra was hit by a car.
Manasra's case drew attention internationally after the appearance of video images with crowds shouting words that suggest abuse, while he was lying motionless, seriously injured and shouting.
Other filming would show Israeli officials who were threatening Manasra, being visibly shaken and vulnerable, according to the Palestinian society for prisoners.
In 2016, for the crime committed, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, although the Israeli court recognized that he did not commit the crime. The sentence was reviewed at nine and a half, following a appeal in 2017.
International organizations have repeatedly appealed to Israeli authorities to release it over the years, because of concerns about its treatment and prolonged sites in solitude, along with mental health problems and a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
“His physical and medical condition is very difficult as he suffers from head injuries and physiological and mental problems after he was closed alone and has been subjected to harsh interrogations when he was a child“Said his lawyer.
Israel prison authorities confirmed that Manasra was released on Thursday, adding: “Israel is a rule of law, we do not torture people here”.
