Officers of the Central Police Investigation Bureau broke up a gang dealing with extortion of communication damages. The losses of insurance companies could amount to PLN 2 million. 16 people heard allegations.

Krzysztof Wrześniowski reported that CBŚP police officers under the supervision of the Podlasie Division of Organized Crime of the National Prosecutor's Office are investigating an organized criminal group, which dealt with extorting compensation from insurance companies after misleading representatives of victims of companies, including in connection with causing deliberate collisions with the participation of substituted cars.
The group operated in 2013-16 in the province. Mazowiecki and in other parts of the country. Its members also confirmed untruth on several dozen VAT invoices issued by the companies they control for the purchase of spare parts. They also falsified contracts for the rental of replacement vehicles, thus extorting compensation.
“So far, 12 people have been detained as part of the investigation, and 16 people have heard the allegations” – noted Wrzesiński.
The prosecutor charged them with, among others participation in an organized criminal group, extorting compensation in connection with the use of forged documents. So far, almost 60 communication events have been charged.
The group's activities could cause PLN 2 million losses for insurance companies. In the course of the investigation, the property of the perpetrators was secured for nearly PLN 3 million. (PAP)
