Hilarion – Turn the shafts
On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Monk Ilarion of the New, the abbot of Pelikitsky, who lived in the 8th century.
The saint received his nickname in Rus' thanks to the weather, which became very warm by his day. It was believed that even if the snow came to Hilarion, now it will definitely begin to melt – and very quickly. So, it's time to turn the shafts from the sled and remove winter transport for storage. Also on this day it was supposed to clean the ponds that had already been freed from the ice.
