The actions of Cal-Maine Foods, the largest egg manufacturer in the US, have dropped in transactions after closing the scholarship on Tuesday, after the company acknowledged that it is investigated by the US Antitrust Office, the Associated Press reports.

Cal-Maine, a company based in the state of Mississippi in southern US, said he received a notification of the investigation related to egg price increases last month. The company said that it cooperates with the authorities in the investigation.

The company's shares decreased by over 4% in transactions after closing the scholarship.

Egg prices have reached record levels in the US in recent months, mainly due to an avian flu epidemic that forced the farmers to sacrifice over 166 million birds, most of them being laying chickens.

A formwork with 12 quality eggs cost, on average, $ 5.90 in US cities in February, up 10.4% compared to the same period last year. The average price of February exceeded the previous record of January, $ 4.95.

Egg price increases have brought cal-maine, which provide about 20% of the eggs consumed in the US, under increased public attention.

The egg manufacturer says it has doubled its sales, despite high prices

On Tuesday, Cal-Maine announced that his sales have almost doubled, reaching $ 1.42 billion in the third tax quarter, which ended on March 1. The company said that this increase is mainly due to higher egg prices, which it sold on average for $ 4.06 per formwork in that quarter, compared to $ 2.25 a year ago.

Cal-Maine said he sold a record number of 331.4 million eggs in the fiscal quarter that ended on March 1, an increase of 10% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The company also said that it has made progress in mitigating the effects of avian influenza, including by increasing the number of closed chicken and chicken, as well as resuming activity in closed farms in Texas and Kansas due to avian flu. The company also said that the costs of animal feed were lower in that quarter.

Donald Trump has made his main campaign theme before combating his main campaign before the elections in November last year, promising the decrease in food prices if he will leave the president. But the price of the eggs remained persistently, as the US is facing a shortage that could not be remedied immediately.
