South African coins worth 150,000 lei, confiscated from the luggage of a Romanian at Brasov Airport. How did the woman defend

Ten coins, made of yellow metal, were discovered and confiscated by the Border Police Airport Brașov in the luggage of a Romanian who wanted to travel to London.

The incident took place on April 6, 2025, when a woman tried to travel from Brasov to London. The border police have prepared a criminal case in terms of committing the smuggling offense, a fact provided by Law no. 86/2006.
“It was carried out a thorough control over the hand luggage of the person concerned, thus discovered ten coins, made of yellow metal, inscribed Suid Afrika- South Africa”, The Romanian Border Police said.
According to them, the woman stated that she had received the currencies and does not hold any document of origin. She also had no transport authorization abroad for them.
“The goods, estimated at a value of approximately 150,000 lei, were detained by the customs authorities for their expertise, finding that the passenger did not comply with the legal regulations regarding the transport of goods and the obligations regarding their declaration to customs“According to the police.
