New Series Continuing 'Yellowstone' Phenomenon Becomes Instant Streaming Hit: 'The Temperature Is Rising, Literally'

“Ferma Dutton” (Dutton Ranch), the new “spin-off” series that expands the “Yellowstone” universe created by the American filmmaker Taylor Sheridan, has become the most watched series of the SkyShowtime platform since its debut weekend and is one of the most watched series in Romania.

JustWatch, a site that allows users to search for different movies and series to find out which streaming platform they are on, shows that “Dutton's Farm” is currently the third most popular series on a video-on-demand service available in Romania, despite the fact that SkyShowtime is the newest platform launched in the local market.

SkyShowtime's internal rankings show that the new series in the “Yellowstone” universe has become its most watched since its debut weekend. SkyShowtime released the first two episodes last Friday, with the next 7 to appear a week apart.

Globally, “Dutton Farm” is the most-watched series on Paramount+, the streaming platform that broadcasts Taylor Sheridan's series in the United States and other countries, mostly outside of Europe.

The new series “Yellowstone” moves the action from Montana to Texas

“Dutton Farm” revolves around Rip and Beth's characters from the original “Yellowstone” series, who are struck by tragedy once again after the events of the series' explosive finale that ended in 2024. This causes their characters to move from Montana, where the “Yellowstone” story has taken place so far, to Texas.

Actors Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who reprise their roles as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton for the new series, explained in an interview with the HotNews audience what the move means for the story as a whole, plus other behind-the-scenes details.

“It's a new journey, a new state, new people. Finally, obviously, coming off Season 6B of 'Yellowstone,' we have a moment in Montana to kind of breathe. But things are going bad in Montana, and we're moving to Texas to have some peace and quiet. But that doesn't last very long. It's starting to heat up, literally,” Cole Hauser told HotNews.

“And I think it's a great season that's like nothing we've seen before. And the cast is fantastic. Obviously, the place is different. The people are different. It's just a completely different show,” he emphasized.

“Challenges are everywhere. I mean we've lost everything, these characters have lost everything so many times. They're pretty adept at adapting, but here they're like fish out of water,” Kelly Reilly also explained.

“We literally lost everything but the clothes that were on them. So in its own way, starting over was both the gift and the challenge” for the new series, the actress added.

New 'Dutton Farm' Series Continues 'Yellowstone' Tradition

“Yellowstone” fans will probably know that “Dutton's Farm” is the second spin-off series this year, following “Marshals”, which launched on SkyShowtime in March.

The first series, which revolves around the character of Kayce Dutton, did not impress film critics, however, and some fans were rather disappointed by the major change in tone.

That was because “Marshals” was the first “Yellowstone” spin-off series that didn't focus on the family ranch or running a ranch in general. Things are completely different in the new series, as is evident even from its title.

With “Dutton Farm” things are completely different in the new series, which is obvious from the title itself. And this is reflected both in the reviews of film critics and the ratings given by the public.

“Dutton's Farm” has an 88% approval rating from film critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, even slightly higher than the series that opened the “Yellowstone” universe. On IMDb, where regular viewers can also vote, the new series has an average score of 8.5 / 10, compared to 8.6 / 10 for “Yellowstone”.

Like “1883” and “1923,” the other two highly acclaimed series from the same universe, “Dutton Farm” features two well-known veteran Hollywood actors in the lead roles alongside Hauser and Reilly.

The two Hollywood veterans joining the “Yellowstone” universe with the new series are Ed Harris, Oscar nominee for his roles in “Apollo 13,” “The Truman Show” and “The Hours,” and Annette Bening, who has five Academy Award nominations.
