The President of France Emmanuel Macron said that France could recognize the Palestinian state in June, adding that some states of the Middle East could recognize the state of Israel, reports Reuters.
“We have to go to the direction of recognition of the Palestinian state, and in the coming months, we will do it. I do not do it to someone. I do it because, at some point, it will be right,” Macron said in an interview for France 5.
“And because I want to be part of the collective dynamics that would give the possibility of those who support Palestine to recognize the existence of the state of Israel, which many of them did,” motivated the French president.
Although Palestine has been recognized as a sovereign state of almost 150 countries, most Western states did not, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.
Among the countries that do not recognize Israel are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
“Our goal is that in June, together with Saudi Arabia, we will chair this conference where we could complete the request to mutual recognition by several countries,” Macron said.
