“I told the President (Trump) that Japan has been the largest investor in the United States for five years in a row, and the customs policy can harm our Japanese companies' investment abilities,” IShiba reported the conversation.

The Prime Minister emphasized that instead of unilateral duties, both sides should strive for broad cooperation, which will benefit both Japan and the United States, including through the expansion of the investment.

Both leaders agreed that this issue requires further conversations at the ministerial level. IShiba announced that he would designate the right ministers to continue the dialogue with American counterparts.

The American president pointed out that Tokyo would send “the best team for negotiations! They treated the United States very badly in terms of trade” – wrote Trump in social media. “They don't take our cars, but we take millions of them. Similarly with agriculture and many other +things +. All this must change, But especially (in relation) with China !!! “ Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

Authorities in Tokyo are afraid that Trump's decision to impose 25 percent. duties on the import of cars and “mutual duties” in the amount of 24 percent. Dutch to other Japanese goods can seriously hit the Japanese economy, which is largely based on export.

Last week, Trump also reported that the US would apply 25 % duties towards South Korea, 32 % – towards Taiwan, 34 % -China, 46 % – Vietnam, 31 % – Switzerland, 26 % – India, 24 % – Malaysia and 17 % – Israel.

In response to these decisions, global stock exchanges have been reporting the largest declines in decades from Friday.
