About 16,500 Israeli soldiers needed treatment for physical injuries or mental trauma in the Gaza Strip Strip against the Palestinian group Hamas started a year and a half ago, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced on Sunday, the DPA agency, taken over by Agerpres.

According to the balance of victims in their own camp, more than 400 Israeli soldiers died in this war, about 9,200 were injured and about 7,300 required psychological assistance. According to the head of the rehabilitation department of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Limur Luria, the latter suffered from conditions such as post-traumatic stress, panic attacks or depression.

The Israeli army created a special telephone line for both the military suffering from psychological trauma and their families, the objective being especially the prevention of suicides.

The Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,210 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, triggered the reprisals of the Israeli army and the war in which the Israeli offensive killed at least 50,000 people and injured more than 111,000 in the Gaza Strip, most Palestinian civilians, women and children Palestinian besieged by Israel, according to the data of the Ministry of Health led Hamas, data that the UN considers reliable.

An armistice ended with Hamas was broken by Israel in mid -March, when the Israeli army resumed bombing on the Gaza strip.

During the first stage of the Armistice Agreement, which expired on March 1, Hamas taught Israel 33 hostages, including 8 dead. In turn, Israel has released about 1,800 Palestinian prisoners, but since then the negotiations have been blocked.

Hamas demanded the transition to the second phase of the agreed agreement, which includes a permanent cessation of fire, the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the reopening of the passage points for humanitarian aid and the release of the remaining hostages.

But Israel called for an extension of the first phase of the agreement until mid -April and conditioned the transition to the second phase of the first release of all the other 59 hostages held by Hamas (of which the Israeli army estimates that 35 are dead) and the disarming of the Palestinian group. But the latter did not accept the conditions placed by Israel, which thus broke the armistice and resumed on March 17 the military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The new US President Donald Trump has proposed a plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian population to be expelled from this territory, a plan described by the UN as “ethnic purification” and rejected by several Western and Arab countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
