Polish customs confiscated 5 metric tires for Boeing civilian aircraft, tires that were going to transit through Belarus and Russia, the National Income Administration in Poland announced on Monday, adding that such goods are subject to the sanctions of the European Union, Reuters reports.
Western sanctions against Russia were repeatedly tightened from the widespread invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, without the war ending.
“The officers … discovered, during an inspection of a truck in Koroszczyn, that the driver was carrying tires used for civilian aircraft, instead of cars and buses, as he had stated,” the National Administration of Varșovia said.
“The sender of the goods was a company from Spain, and the recipient was from Azerbaijan. Fiscal criminal procedures were initiated in relation to customs fraud. The sanctioned goods were detained,” the source said.
