During Trump's “year of negotiations” the number of victims in Ukraine increased by a third – Matveychuk

Attempts by US President Donald Trump to negotiate peace in Ukraine with the aggressor country Russia have led to a sharp increase in the number of casualties among the Ukrainian civilian population. The head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Alexandra Matveychuk, stated this at the Kiev Security Forum (KSF) on April 24.

“It’s ironic, but the year of President Trump’s negotiations became the deadliest year for Ukrainian civilians. According to the UN, the number of killed and wounded civilians increased by 35% compared to the previous year. This is a direct consequence of the loss of people as a priority in political processes,” the human rights activist said.

Speaking about the parameters of peace, she emphasized that it is impossible without fair conditions for Ukraine. Therefore, documenting war crimes and bringing those responsible to justice, in her opinion, is not just a legal procedure, but “work that paves the way for peace.”
