The special representative of the Russian Federation announced progress in negotiations and “acceptable” security guarantees for Ukraine

“In the near future, new meetings are planned that will allow you to consolidate the progress achieved and continue to build strong relations in favor of both countries,” the report said.

In an interview with Fox News, published on April 3, Dmitriev stated that the US presidential administration Donald Trump reached the “first de -escalation in the conflict”, which consists in terminating the attacks of energy infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine.

He also stated that the Kremlin can consider the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, but against Ukraine’s entry into NATO.

“Ukraine’s entry into NATO is absolutely impossible, and this was widely declared, in particular, the Trump administration. However, some security guarantees in one form or another may be acceptable,” he said.

Context

On April 1, CNN, citing sources, wrote that Dmitriev would visit Washington this week. According to him, Dmitriev was supposed to meet with the special representative of Trump Steve Witkoff, who leads contacts with the Kremlin, for negotiations, allegedly about “strengthening relations between the two countries seeking to end the war in Ukraine.”

Axios interlocutors, familiarized with the situation, said that sanctions from Dmitriev were lifted for seven days (the US Treasury was introduced against him). The American high -ranking official told the publication that indirect negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine have come to a dead end, and Dmitriev’s visit to the United States is part of the ongoing efforts to achieve the ceasefire in Ukraine.

On April 2, Dmitriev met with American officials in Washington, reported Reuters with reference to two sources among American officials. Sources informed that Dmitriev arrived in the United States at the invitation of Witkoff.

As the agency wrote, Dmitriev can play an important role in the resumption of relations between Moscow and Washington. Journalists recall that Dmitriev, who was educated in Stanford and previously worked at Goldman Sachs, is considered one of the most informed representatives of Russia about the United States. He has close ties with the main members of the Trump team and became the highest official of the Russian Federation who visited the United States since the full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022.

On April 3, Dmitriev stated that “numerous forces” are trying to “maintain tension” in relations between Russia and the USA. On the same day, he said that Moscow does not ask the United States to lift sanctions as part of negotiations on the termination of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
