Former FC Porto striker Walter Henrique da Silva is back in the spotlight in Brazil. Having reached the age of 36, the footballer signed with Samambaia, a team from the Brazilian district leagues.
The striker was considered one of the great hopes of South American football at the beginning of the last decade.
Walter's emotional message: 'Only God knows what I've been through'
On Instagram, the former player from Porto posted two images: one from the period when he was overweight, and one from now, visibly physically changed, along with an emotional message:
“Thank you, my God, for all that you have done and will do in my life. Only You know what I have been through. All I can do is thank you, Father. Thank you, thank you for everything, my God. 🙏🏽”
The Brazilian won the Europa League with Porto
Walter arrived in Portugal in 2010 after a transfer from Internacional Porto Alegre, aged just 21.
In his first season at 'Dragao', the forward made 25 appearances and scored 10 goals, contributing to a historic year under Andre Villas-Boas (48), when FC Porto won the title, the Portuguese Cup, the Super Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
However, the rise came to an abrupt halt. In the following years, Walter was loaned several times, to Cruzeiro, Goias or Athletico Paranaense, until the final parting with Porto in 2019.
Weight problems and a long break
After the year 2020, Walter's career entered a downward slope. The footballer went through difficult times, gaining a lot of weight and moving away from the field. Between 2022 and 2024, the striker hardly played at all.
The comeback came in 2024, when he signed with Aquidauana, a team in the second division Sul-Mato-Grossense (first-tier league at the regional level), for which he scored 4 goals in 9 matches.

After the short adventure at Aquidauana, Walter was officially presented by Samambaia, a club from the lower leagues of Brazil.
Throughout his career, Walter played for Internacional, FC Porto, Cruzeiro, Goias, Fluminense, Atletico Goianiense, CSA, Vitoria and Aquidauana.
In 2011, the Brazilian was quoted at 5.5 million euros on the specialized website Transfermarkt.
