The courier, the most used method of drug dealers. How the phenomenon can be stopped ANALYSIS
The “parcel” method is most often used by traffickers to introduce drugs in Romania, the data of the latest report of DIICOT prosecutors shows. The method is used especially for cannabis, the most consumed drug in Romania. Anti -drug expert Cătălin Țone says that dealers reinvent themselves and find new ways to dissimulate the prohibited substances.

“In animal food, for dogs for dogs, in various canned, in bread, inhale textiles, in trinkets impregnated in papers that reach the penitentiaries. The traffickers do not have restraints and try all kinds of reasons because they are handled by a fabulous win. Drug trafficking is the most profitable criminal activity worldwide, at the present time”Explains the specialist, former head of BCCO Bucharest.
An analysis of the most common operating modes that prosecutors faced in criminal investigations reveal orders made through Darknet and pay with virtual currencies, so that it is difficult to follow.
The method has increased, especially since traffickers have the impression that they are hard to catch, acting in an area that is not sufficiently regulated in us in the country. There are no imperative rules for courier companies. Moreover, they discuss the secret of correspondence when it comes to checking packages.
The only “weapon” of the authorities in this regard implies a lot of bureaucracy. More precisely, the anti -drug expert explained: “ÎWhen there is a suspicion regarding the commission of an affection, a criminal case can be registered and then this norm is no longer opposable. A possible drug bag is identified following the scan, the documentation is made quickly, an order is issued to access the correspondence by the prosecutor or a mandate is required and this searches are done. ”
In order to combat the phenomenon, the Romanian Police was equipped with a portable scanner. Extremely useful, say the specialists, especially after Romania's entry into Schengen and removing the border controls, insufficient to cover the needs of our country.
“There should be dozens of such scanners on the territory of Romania and it is also necessary to cover with human resources. There are still counties that have 2-3 anti-drug police to over 200,000 seats as the phenomenon has expanded”, Says Țone.
The scanner is intended especially for the parcel area, but it will be used in the big music festivals, which represent a new point of attraction for tourists, but also for traffickers.
“In 2024, they were trapped in the Mini-Vacanta May 1, on the coast, where three concerts, 20 traffickers, dealers, foreign citizens who came to do drug trafficking at music festivals were organized. Romania is attractive to drug dealers, it is a new market, it means more Banns”, Cătălin Țone said for the truth.
Last year, 90 packages were discovered by police, in which there were 500 kilograms of cannabis and 9 kilograms of cocaine. Regarding the festival area, only in the Mini-Vacanta of May 1 in 2024 the police have taken 20 foreign traffickers who came especially to Romania to sell drugs to the three concerts organized on the coast.
