Online platform where cancer patients will be advised by doctors: “Some patients do not die because of cancer, but because they no longer cope with pressure.”

An online platform dedicated to people diagnosed with cancer and their families, ONCORC (resources, counseling, partnership), was launched on Wednesday. The platform aims to help the oncological patients and their relatives to be counseled and to communicate better with the doctors.

The platform was developed in collaboration with the Federation of Cancer Patients' Associations and the Coalition of Patients with Chronic Diseases and is a project supported by the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

For access to the platform, those interested can access the link: https://oncorcp.codeoftalent.com/ registration/onco-7546.

Oncorcp (resources, counseling, partnership) can only be accessed by doctors, patients diagnosed with cancer and their families.

The platform offers free access to educational video materials, a component AI and Podcast.

Patients have free access to videos and educational resources, presented by Andi Cârlan, patient navigator, himself a 6 -year -old patient.

The platform integrates an innovative component of artificial intelligence, which guides users through an educational process. Patients go on awareness questionnaires, learn to ask their questions for doctors and better express their emotions and needs.

Oncorcp also includes a series of episodes of a podcast with oncologists, representatives of patients and health experts.

The platform can be accessed from any device.

“I want no oncological patient to go through what I went through”

Andi Cârlan, an oncological patient and patient navigator, says he wants “no oncological patient to go through what I went through – moments of despair, dislocation”.

“Cancer is a chronic disease, and today's cancer is no longer as lethal as it was 20 years ago. Not all oncological patients die from cancer. Some die because of very aggressive treatment, who can no longer cope.

“For example, I do not know how many of us know that an oncological patient needs, from the first day of diagnosis, as an oncologist, nutritionist specialized in oncological nutrition and physiotherapist. All 3 is needed at the same time, at the time of diagnosis. Regardless of what type of cancer it is, you have as a great need for an oncologist, a specialized oncological nutrition. Kinetotherapist ”, adds Andi Cârlan.

Andi Cârlan also says that “there are very few people who know that the toxic substances in cytostatics are also eliminated by muscle mass. A patient who has a large muscle mass eliminates faster toxic chemicals than a patient who has lost muscle mass. A patient who quickly has these substances. And a suitable nutrition is becoming more and more weak, loses muscle mass with the speed of light and, finally, loses its ability to move and, finally, the desire to live. “

“Communication does not only mean the transmission of information, it means active listening, empathy, availability and the ability to translate scientific language into an accessible language, through which the patient to understand, to find his confidence and to become a partner in his own healing process,” says Viorel Jinga, the rector of the University “.

“All the more so in the case of oncological patients, as well as their belongings, in which from finding the diagnosis, but also throughout the therapeutic treatments, the psycho-emotional impact is a deep one and can generate serious repercussions, from anxieties, depression or even suicide. And a bright man, who gives him hope, clarity and understanding, ”adds the rector UMF.
