Mariusz Haładyj with the new president of the Supreme Audit Office. Support of 83 senators

The term of office of Marian Banas, the current president of the Supreme Audit Office, ended on August 30. Initially, two candidates were submitted – Tadeusz Dziuba, a former PiS MP and Vice President of the Supreme Audit Office, and Mariusz Haładyja. However, just before the vote, Jarosław Kaczyński withdrew Dziuba's candidacy. Haładyja was formally proposed by Sejm Szymon Hołownia, emphasizing that the decision was consulted with government representatives.

Last week, both candidates were publicly listened to by parliamentarians, experts and social organizations. Haładyj in his speech pointed out that the Supreme Audit Office should act as a state finance guard and a system auditor. He pointed out that current controls too often focus on formalities, and in the meantime it is more important to study the purposefulness, efficiency and savings of public institutions. He also emphasized that the measure of NIK's effectiveness should be both revealing serious abuses and real changes in the functioning of the state felt by citizens. In addition, he postulated the introduction of tools based on artificial intelligence that could create an early warning system for irregularities.
