The French President Emmanuel Macron, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski and other European leaders will discuss with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, at the conclusion of the “Volunteer Coalition” sum in which the security guarantees for Ukraine will be discussed, the Elysée Palace announced on Wednesday.
The summit of “Volunteer Coalition” is scheduled at 10:30 (11:30 in Romania), with several leaders present in Paris: besides Macron and Zelenski, will be the presidents of the European institutions Ursula von Der Leyen and Antonio Costa, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, head of the Danish Government Mette Frederiksen Tusk, while other state or government leaders will participate through video conferencing.
The summit will be followed at 2:00 pm (15:00 in Romania) by a telephone call with the President of the United States, then by a press conference at the French Presidential Palace at 15:00 (16:00, Romania time).
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has been waiting for Wednesday evening in Paris, where he will prepare with Emmanuel Macron the next day. The Kiev leader said he intends to talk to Donald Trump on Thursday about additional sanctions against Russia.
Video we do not see any sign that Russia wants to end the war, Zelenski says in Paris. What assurances did Macron give him
The “Coalition of Volunteers” consists of 31 countries, mainly European, including Romania, who have promised Ukraine against the Russian aggression and which is co-foreshadowed by the leaders of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.
The declared objective of the initiative is to facilitate the peace negotiation attempts between Kiev and Moscow launched by the US in February this year, through a contribution to sufficiently solid security guarantees for Ukraine to ensure the durability of a potential cease and a peace agreement.
Thus, the countries gathered in the “Volunteers' Coalition” have declared themselves willing to support the Ukrainian army and even send soldiers to Ukraine once an armistice with Moscow is completed to discourage Russia from any new aggression.
Diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the Ukraine war has accelerated in recent weeks under the leadership of Donald Trump, who met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month, but so far have not produced concrete results.
Kiev accuses Russia of drawing time and pretending to want to negotiate, to better prepare for new attacks.
The Russian army currently controls about 20% of the Ukrainian territory and has an advantage on the front line.
