Now. Meeting at the PNL for the Tomac Government. Liberals decide whether to vote for the proposed government

The PNL leadership met on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m., in a meeting of the National Political Bureau, to decide whether or not to support the Eugen Tomac Government. The vote for the investiture of the Executive will take place next week in the assembled plenary session of the Parliament.

Gigel Știrbu, about the call made by Nicușor Dan

Gigel Știrbu, PNL vice-president, asked by journalists about the call launched Wednesday evening by Nicușor Dan and if there is pressure from the president to vote for the Tomac government, said that “it doesn't seem normal to me that there is pressure from the presidency. I think this message should have come before the censure motion”.

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan did not make any statement to journalists upon arrival at the meeting.

Ciprian Ciucu did not want to answer the questions either.

The meeting of the PNL leadership takes place in the room of the PNL group in the Chamber of Deputies. PNL deputies and senators, mayors of county seat municipalities and presidents of County Councils who are not members of BPN are invited to participate.

According to the Constitution, Eugen Tomac has 10 days from the moment of his appointment by Nicușor Dan, i.e. until June 14, to send the list of proposed ministers and the government program to the Parliament.

To be sworn in as prime minister, Eugen Tomac needs the vote of the majority of deputies and senators, i.e. 233 votes.

The signal given by PNL

Eugen Tomac met with PNL representatives on Monday, being the first party with whom he discussed the support for the investiture vote.

The President of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, declared, after the discussion with Tomac, that such a government, “which is not based on explicit political support, is not a solution for Romania, having practically no possibility to continue the reforms and pass difficult things that the reality we are going through needs, which Romania cannot avoid, without parliamentary support”.

On Monday evening, Ciprian Ciucu, the first vice-president of the PNL, reproached the appointed prime minister for proposing to the Ministry of Development, Transport, Energy and Agriculture persons close to the PSD.

“Please, have decency and don't take us for fools. PSD has already made this mistake! Show us a minimum of respect and don't insult our intelligence,” said the liberal mayor of the Capital.

Later, on Wednesday evening, Eugen Tomac declared, on B1 TV, that no name from the list announced by the ministers is irreplaceable, being willing to consider proposals from the parties. He even proposed to Ciprian Ciucu to take over the Ministry of Development.

USR position

USR has already announced several times that it will enter the opposition and will not accept a government that includes PSD.

In fact, most recently, USR senator Ștefan Pălărie, declared that the overwhelming majority of USR members will reject the Tomac Government, which he said was a proposal “consisting of PSD friends or PSD cans”.

And the PNL announced several times, after the AUR-PSD censure motion, that it would go into opposition and no longer be part of a government with the PSD.
