Former US ambassador to Poland about the Trump-Nawrocki meeting. “I was encouraged”

As stated, the former ambassador who accompanied Trump while traveling to Poland in 2017, his greatest fear before the meeting was the risk that the political disputes in Poland between the government and the president would be a shadow on Polish-American relations and the supra-party nature of the Polish alliance with the USA. As he said, it was not seen during the talks in the oval office.
– We saw a focus on bilateral security relationships and everything in this respect was very positive. Trump talked about how strong Polish-American relations are, the best in history, and even called them special ones with which the US only connects a few other countries-summed up Jones, currently the Think-Tanku Center for European Policy Analysis (flail) expert. – And above all, we heard an important commitment to maintain the US armed forces in Poland, and even the possibility of increasing them. This sent a strong signal – he added.
The former ambassador pointed to the “greatest risk”
Jones noticed that although Trump emphasized that Nawrocki was his preferred candidate in the election and that he was proud that he supported him, his words did not have a division. He also emphasized that the statements of the future US ambassador in Poland Tom Rose about both sides of the political dispute in Warsaw, as well as the Tuesday meeting of US Secretary of State Marek Rubio with Vice -President Radosław Sikorski, were in a similar way. Although after the meeting of Nawrocki, Marcin and Adam Bielan, they claimed that Sikorski and Tusk are not welcome in the White House, according to Jones, it is clear that Rubio has good relations with Sikorski, and the US alliance with Poland retains a supreme character.
The former ambassador noted that during the public part of the meeting in the White House, Nawrocki devoted little attention to the war in Ukraine and the issue of possible sanctions against Russia. Trump, in turn, announced that this issue would be settled in the coming days after talking to Vladimir Putin, although he suggested that after applying secondary duties to India, he could go to the second and third phases of sanctions.
– The greatest risk is that President Trump under the influence of frustration can simply stop paying attention to this. That is why I hope that President Nawrocki, behind the closed door, told him that Russia must not trust, that Ukraine's independence is important for the whole continent, and encouraged him to maintain pressure on Moscow, “said Jones. – It is important that personal conversations have a real impact on Trump, who listens to foreign leaders equally, as national advisers – especially those he likes. That is why I hope Nawrocki took advantage of this opportunity – he added.
