The Minister of Education will ask “all directors” to say “clearly and explicitly” to parents if they can take their children to school on September 8

The Minister of Education, Daniel David, told Antena 3 on Tuesday that he is “convinced that the students will be received and will be expected in schools” on September 8, at the opening of the 2025-2026 school year, despite the protest announced by the unions. He said he would ask the directors to communicate to parents what the situation is in the educational units he manages.

Minister Daniel David said that he will ask the “directors” of schools to inform parents if there are forms of protest in the school who affect the first day of the school year.

“The message must be clear, explicit and, with the grandstand you give me now, I ask all the directors to do it and we will send an address in this regard, the parents to know what to do on the 8, but, I think, this is my hope, that regardless of the forms of protest, the children will go to school, they will be in the classroom, Justice, the message must be given, somehow, publicly – and I will ask this to the directors, ”said the Minister of Education.

Daniel David, “convinced” that the students “will enter the classroom”

The official is confident that the students “who go to schools will be received in schools” on September 8.

“My message to parents and students, and for teachers, is that, beyond the controversies that exist at this time in our field, the upset we have or the others, we all know that the children's interest, the interest of the students.

He stated that the “right” of the unions to boycott the opening of the school year.

“How will the activities actually be carried out – I have also seen the intention of the unions to boycott the process, in various forms, some lighter, some more severe, is the right of the union to do, for sure, this, but the children will be expected at school and I am convinced that they will enter the classroom, and then there is no different schools, there is no different schools.

What did he say about the situation in his daughter's school

The Minister of Education said that his daughter is a student in the fourth grade. Asked if he will take her to school on September 8, he confirmed: “Yes, sure.”

“This, with festivity or without festivity, in the message I transmitted, considering that we are in a situation of fiscal-budgetary crisis, I said if there are festivities not to become festivism. I think every director will determine what festivity he does, if the children enter the classroom directly-and that I do not think that the minister has to say.

Further, asked if the teachers of the school where his daughter teaches will be in classes or in protest, the minister said: “I do not know at this time, but I am convinced, I repeat, that the children going to schools will be received in schools. This is the function, this is the ration of the school in a modern society.”

Protest announced by unions for September 8

At the beginning of the month, in a common statement, the three most important education unions announced that they will boycott the first day of school and, instead of going to the chairs on September 8, will picket the Government headquarters, in protest against the austerity measures taken by the Government in the field of education.

“This year, for us the first day will not have the same significance. Please do not blame us for this decision to boycott the first day of school. The Government is to blame, which, through the measures taken, showed that it does not care about us, of you, the Romanian “Spiru Haret” and the National Trade Union Federation “Alma Mater”.

The three organizations urged students and parents not to participate this year in “empty content festivities and join our protest.”

Simion Hăncescu, the leader of the Federation of Free Trade Unions, said last week that he told Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan that “the opening of the school year will be made, for the first 35 years, in front of the Victoria Palace, of the Cotroceni Palace and the Prefectures.
