Dozens of trains canceled on important routes: CFR Călaturi failed to pay their bills on time

CFR Călaturi has announced the cancellation of dozens of railway races on routes from all over the country, after the company failed to pay its bills to the railway network administrator.

At the beginning of the week, CFR Călatori promised to find a solution to financial problems. However, the company has officially acknowledged that it is unable to pay the due invoices to CFR SA, the administrator of the railway network, worth over 40 million lei.
CFR Călaturi claims that it has to receive from the Railway Reform Authority (ARF) over 139 million lei, but so far it has received only 7.8 million, insufficient to extinguish debts. In parallel, the company paid 13 million to CFR SA, but this was not enough to avoid cancellations.
The announcement of the company
In an official statement, CFR Călaturi has confirmed financial issues and the impossibility to comply with its contractual obligations: “CFR Călaturi is unable to pay at the due time the value of the invoices for the tariff for the use of the infrastructure, worth 41.4 million lei, considering that although it had to be collected from the railway reform authority over 139 million lei, only the amount of 7.8 million lei was paid, entered in the CFR Călător accounts.
However, CFR Călaturi has paid to CFR SA from the due value, so far, 13 million lei and continues to take the necessary steps to receive the amounts due by ARF, as well as for Pay debts to CFR SA and other suppliers of services.
We mention that, if the subcompensation of the railway transport system of passenger transport, delays in the payment of the travel facilities granted to the different social categories and the compensation, we are practically unable to respect the contractual commitments within the maturity. CFR Călaturi apologizes to the traveling public for inconvenience that may occur and do everything possible to limit their impact”, The company statement said.

According to CFR Călaturi, the cancellations will enter into force from September 1, 2025 and October 1, 2025, affecting both regional routes and essential links between large cities.
Among the suspended trains include Bacău – Suceava Nord, Pașcani – Suceava Nord, Botoșani – Suceava Nord, but also important trains on the relations of Bucharest – Iași, Bucharest – Galați, Brașov – Bucharest Nord, Bucharest – Constanța, Timișoara – Oradea – Oradea – Oradea Nord.
The full list of canceled trains has been published by the company and provides for the suspension of over 30 races, with the possibility of extending measuresI “up to new provisions”.
