From January 2024 to the end of July 2025, at least 19 obstetrics were liquidated. Reason? They have become unprofitable – according to a probe carried out by the Medical Portal Rynek Zdrowia.

Portal Rynekzdrowia.pl in the article published on Thursday pointed out that although the liquidation of delivery rooms is not on the hands of the rulers, it is happening. Hospitals and their founding bodies are increasingly deciding to terminate the departments bringing losses.

In some there are days without a single childbirth – it was emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Health Jerzy Szafranowicz, cited by the portal, noted that at 200-300 deliveries the branch generates a loss of PLN 5-6 million per year.

The portal reminded that the decline in births in Poland has been visible since the 1980s. The last Baby Boom, i.e. the period during which the number of births clearly increased, took place in 1983, when 723 thousand were born. kids.
