Bloomberg analyzed the discussion that European leaders conduct on a security guarantee for Ukraine and what support decision would be made by its allies during the day if that country was again attacked by Russia.
It is emphasized that one of the options is the proposal forced by Prime Minister Meloni. This plan recognizes that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is currently out of the question. Proponuje się natomiast mechanizm kolektywnej pomocy dla tego kraju.
This concept, called “NATO – Light”, would oblige countries that will sign bilateral agreements with Kiev, to give a quick answer in the event of an attack, say anonymous sources of Bloomberg.
Among the options for such an answer would be to provide Ukraine with rapid support for its defense, financial assistance, military strengthening, as well as imposing sanctions on Russia.
On Wednesday, in an interview with the daily La Repubblica, the Italian defense minister Guido Crosetto said that security guarantees for Ukraine similar to provisions under Article 5. NATO would be more effective than sending troops.
