The purpose of the visit is to make another summary after Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place last Friday in Anchorage in Alaska, but also, more importantly, a common look into the future.
Zelanski himself asked for European support, as the chairwoman of the European Commission informed Ursula von der leyenwho accepted the Ukrainian president on Sunday in Brussels.

Here are three key issues during the visit of European leaders to Washington.
It sounded almost the same as always: before the video conference of the so -called Coalitions willing, the chairwoman of the European Commission talked about “territorial integrity” and “sovereignty” in the context of Ukraine. However, Europeans already know this: Ukraine will lose its territories to Russia.
Zelanski's country is “ready to negotiate on territorial issues” – announced Friedrich Merz before the summit in Alaska.
Last Wednesday, there was a demand from Russia that it was a “contact line”, i.e. the front line, is to be the starting point for negotiations. This means that Putin can stop what he has gained.
But even this is not enough for the Russian dictator:As reported by the Financial Times, he demanded from Trump the entire Donetsk and Lugansk region in exchange for freezing the remaining part of the front line in the south of the country.
Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, chairwoman of the European Parliament Defense Committee, demands a hard position. In an interview with The Pioneer, she said firmly: – You can't agree to “soft concessions”, and even more so to the transfer of Ukraine to Russia.
2. Security guarantees
In this matter, Wołodymyr Zelanski will hope in Donald Trump, who announced the participation of the United States in providing peace in Ukraine. The president from Kiev is demandingso that security guarantees function as article 5. NATO, i.e. as a commitment to help [również militarnej] allies in the event of an attack. Only in this way can the Ukrainian president convince his country to resign from NATO membership, which is after all the constitutional goal of Ukraine.

3. Pressing on Putin
Despite the talks conducted by the USA with Russia, the European Union wants to continue to put pressure on Putin. In September, the next, 19 of the Sanctions round will start to apply.
Europeans expect similar actions from Trump if [w negocjacjach dotyczących zakończenia wojny w Ukrainie] There will be no quick progress. Currently, it is not even clear whether there will be a three -sided meeting of Trump, Zelanski and Putin.
For Strack-Zimmermann, the American president remains an uncertain partner. “Trump showed in Anchorage that he remains unpredictable and serves the interests of Putin than Ukraine or Europe much more,” he says.
Application: It will get crowded in the White House. The support of European leaders is to strengthen Zelanski, but also shows that Europeans do not fully trust Trump.
