Băsescu, after the move of Nicușor Dan: “He did the right thing with Veștea”. Tough message for Bolojan: “To have maturity”

“I think the president acted correctly in the absence of solutions coming from the parties,” said former president Traian Băsescu about the nomination of Adrian Veștea as prime minister.
The former head of state declared, on Digi24, that Nicușor Dan “was not wrong from the constitutional point of view, but from the point of view of interpersonal relations”, by not having a prior discussion with Ilie Bolojan before making the public announcement.
“He could have called Bolojan and told him that he was appointing the newsman. He could have informed him, not asked for his opinion,” Băsescu said.
After the nomination of Veștea, several liberals accused the head of state of wanting to split the PNL. Băsescu said that the president did not have this intention, but “he is pressed by other obligations. It has been 45 days since we have a government and he has not been able to appoint a minister who passes.”
“The president's priority is to give the country a government,” Băsescu said, adding that “PSD cannot form a credible government with the other parties.”
“If the liberals help the Vestea government, it will pass. Bolojan must be mature, the party must not be broken. He must do what must be done. The most important thing is that we do not have a government,” the former president also declared.
“You understand that the president is in an almost desperate situation. What you saw this morning is the limit to which the parties have brought him”, he also commented.
Asked if Nicușor Dan risks suspension, Băsescu answered: “Given how irresponsible today's politicians are, I expect something like that. I'm not surprised that they will initiate the suspension if we don't have a prime minister or a president. It's hard to see such arrogance from nobody.”
