DMA regulates the activities of large internet platforms in the EU. The purpose of this regulation is to limit the dominant role of the largest digital companies, called “access guards” and ensure greater competitiveness on the digital market. It comes, among others for enterprises whose annual turnover in the EU is over EUR 7.5 billion, and the number of users exceeds 45 million per month.

The EC initiated proceedings against Apple and the finish in March 2024. Apple is accused of limiting access in its applications for offers not related to this company. In turn, proceedings against the finish line were initiated in connection with the introduction of the mechanism on it that belongs to it, which gives users a choice: to consent to the processing of personal data and receiving personalized ads or pay so as not to see ads.

A year ago, the EC announced that she intends to complete the proceedings within 12 months. However, the deadline announced by the EC has passed.

The EC spokeswoman was asked on Thursday if the EC would wait 90 days for the announcement of the decision in both proceedings. The end of these proceedings coincided with the confusion around the duties, which he imposes on trading partners, including the EU, the administration of Donald Trump.

Although the EU announces that issues related to BIG Techów regulations are not subject to commercial negotiations, a decision on two American giants may affect talks about the customs between Washington and Brussels. It is expected that trade negotiations will gain momentum now, after Trump announced a suspension of some tariffs for 90 days; She also decided to suspend retaliation on Thursday EU.

Zuber replied to journalists in Brussels that the deadline for the end of the procedure against Big Techów, as specified in DMA, is soft.

As she suggested, the proceedings last longer, because DMA is a new regulation that gives the EC new tools. “We must conduct these proceedings thoroughly and thoroughly prepare our decisions. We would not like these decisions to be overthrown in the courts, so we want them to be legally beyond undermined,” she said.

“I hope that we will be able to present them soon,” added the spokeswoman for the EC.
