Polish prosecutors announced on Wednesday that they had a group of six people for sabotage documents ordered by foreign intelligence services, claiming that Russia and Belarus are behind these operations.

Warsaw states that the strategic role of Poland, as a central point for the help of Ukraine, has transformed the country into a target for Moscow and Minsk. The authorities accuse that Russian and Belaruse secret services have ordered sabotage actions, including arson, on the Polish territory.

“Evidence obtained in this case indicates the suspicion that an organized criminal group in Poland has dealt with recruiting and organizing sabotage actions For foreign information agents“, Said the prosecutor's spokesman, according to Reuters. He added that “The actions of foreign secret services aimed at generating public anxiety and creating a sense of powerlessness among state authorities through sabotage and subversion”.

Russia and Belarus categorically rejected the accusations.

The investigation started after the arrest, earlier this year, of the Ukrainian citizen Serhii S., convicted for planning a sabotage in favor of Russia. The information gathered in this file led to the discovery of the current group.

Incendiary attacks and sabotage attempts

The six defendants, three Poles and three Belaruși, are accused, among other things, of a fire on a fire facility in Marki, in the center of Poland, in April 2024, assumed by a foreign intelligence agency.

Prosecutors also claim that the group tried to fire a deposit in Gdansk in March 2024, and would have attacked a Gdynia restaurant in 2023. In addition, four of them are directly accused for foreign secret services, and the whole group also faces charges of trafficking, drug trafficking and other crimes.

The position of the defendants

According to the prosecutor's office, two of the accused declared their innocence, two others partially recognized the facts, and one admitted all the accusations. For legal reasons, the full names of those involved cannot be made public.
