The FBI dismisses a new series of employees, including former interim director Brian Driscoll, in the latest measures against officials who worked on files that aroused President Donald Trump's anger, four informed persons said on this topic for the Reuters news agency.
Driscoll, who temporarily held the position of director of the Federal Information Bureau earlier this year, before the new director of the FBI, Kash Patel, was confirmed by the Senate, was considered a hero by some members of the secret agency. Driscoll tried to protect them from criminal prosecution for their role in investigating people who stormed the US chapter on January 6, 2021, in the failed attempt of these insurgents to overthrow Trump's electoral defeat in front of Democrat Joe Biden.
Former interim deputy prosecutor of the Department of Justice, Emil Bove, who has been confirmed in the meantime in the position of judge at the Court of Appeal, accused Driscoll and the former Deputy Interim Director of the FBI, Robert Kissane, after they tried to prevent the efforts to collect a list of all persons.
Driscoll, nicknamed “The Drizz”, told his colleagues in a goodbye message on Thursday that he was not explained for his dismissal.
“Last night I was informed that tomorrow will be my last day at the FBI. I understand that you have many questions about why I was dismissed, to which I did not have an answer. “Please know that it was an honor for me to work with each of you,” Driscoll told his colleagues.
The FBI also notified at least three other agents of being fired until Friday, including Steve Jensen, deputy director of the Washington office, Spencer Evans, former Special Agent in Las Vegas, and Walter Giardina, an agent in the Washington office, which was recently targeted by the Republican Senator Charles Grassley for more cases in more cases related to Trum, the informed people said about this issue.
Jensen, in a message to his staff, said he had received a similar message to be told that he would be fired from Friday. “Never deviate from your decision to respond to the call to protect the American people and defend the Constitution,” he wrote, according to a child analyzed by Reuters.
FBI has refused to comment officially.
These measures are the most recent in a series of redundancies that started on the first day of Trump's term, including against the people who worked on files on January 6 or in the files with the two accusations made by the former Special Jack Smith counselor, for keeping classified documents and efforts to overturn the results of 2020.
In most cases, FBI employees have not received explanations for their dismissal. Many of them have filed actions in court, which are still being resolved.
In a statement, the Association of FBI agents (FBIAA) was declared “deeply worried” by the information that the agents will be “discovered briefly, without a fair procedure, because they have done their duty.”
“There is a review process when taking disciplinary measures against the agents. The procedure has been established for FBI to remain independent and apolitical. The FBI leadership has been employed-both public and directly to FBIAA-that it will comply with this process. We urge them to respect its commitment and to comply with the law,” added the association.
