Putin met with Witkoff. Trump: a very fruitful meeting, there are great progress

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the meeting of his envoy with Vladimir Putin was very productive and brought great progress. The president announced further work on the end of the war in Ukraine.

“My special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has just had a very fruitful meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Huge progress was made! Later I gave the latest information to our European allies. Everyone agrees that this war must end and we will work on it in the coming days and weeks,” wrote Trump on his Truth Social portal.

Trump has not yet determined what progress has been made.

Meanwhile, according to the White House official cited by the Reuters Agency, despite a good conversation of Witkoff with Putin, Trump still intends to impose secondary sanctions on you and companies buying Russian raw materials on Friday. On Friday, a 10-day ultimatum passes that the US president gave the Russian leader at the end of the fighting in Ukraine.

Already on Wednesday, after the meeting of Witkoff in the Kremlin, Trump signed a 25 percent regulation. Customs duties on goods from India due to her buying Russian oil and selling it with a profit on the open market.

The White House statement states that this step aims to “put pressure on the Russian Federation to find a solution that will end the conflict and save human life.”

Among the European leaders, to whom Trump reported the results of the meeting in Moscow, was the President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelnski.

“Our common position with partners is absolutely clear – the war must end. And it must be done honestly. European leaders were present at the conversation and I am grateful to each of them for support. We discussed what was established in Moscow,” wrote the Ukrainian president.

Russians: useful and constructive meeting

Wednesday's meeting of the US President Steve Witkoff with the leader of Russia Vladimir Putin was useful and constructive – said Putin's adviser for foreign policy Jurij Ruszakov, quoted by the Reuters agency.

According to Uszakow, the meeting lasted about three hours, and in its during it the issues of ending the war in Ukraine and the possibility of improving American-Russian relations were discussed. He added that the parties “exchanged signals” in terms of Ukraine and discussed the possibility of strategic cooperation between Russia and the USA. He did not provide details.

The advisor of the Russian President for Business Kiriłł Dmitryjew, who had previously welcomed Witkoff at the airport in Moscow, also participated in the talks. On Platform X, he described Witkoff's visit as a successful and wrote that “the constructive Russian-American dialogue continues and is crucial for global security and peace.”

Talks of Russian leaders with an American envoy took place two days before the expiry of the ultimatum designated by US President Donald Trump. On July 29, he announced that he would impose new sanctions on Russia in 10 days, if at that time Moscow did not take the steps to conclude an agreement on the end of the war. Ultimatum is on Friday.

Russia is the third global oil exporter, giving way only to Saudi Arabia and the United States.
