Foreign capital played a key role in the transformation of the Polish economy, but its great commitment also has negative consequences. We remain largely responsible for the production of what has been invented and designed outside the country – we read in the Friday “Puls Biznesu”.

The author of the text indicates that the scale of addiction to the Polish economy on foreign capital is high compared to EU countries and our region. “Companies controlled by foreign investors constitute 7.6 percent of all Polish enterprises. For comparison, in Romania foreign corporations constitute 2.9 percent of total enterprises, in the Czech Republic 1.9 percent, and in Hungary it is 1.5 percent.” – he says. The daily also notes that these companies “also employ every third Pole: their participation in employment is 33.5 percent, while in the Czech Republic it is 27.7 percent, and in Hungary 22.7 percent.”

The newspaper emphasizes that this ownership structure affects the position of Poland in global value chains. We have become an export power – with the participation of 1.52 percent. In the world export of goods we occupy the 22nd place in the world. “Generally, foreign capital brought technology, know-how and access to foreign markets, and all this enabled rapid economic promotion after 1989” – we read.

But there is also the other side of the coin: for now we specialize mainly in the middle links of the chain, i.e. where the margins are relatively low.

“In industry, to a lesser extent – against the background of Germany – we are responsible for design, i.e. inventing and then designing the product. We are more responsible for perimborn activities (category> OtherPB”.

On the other hand, in services, we are less responsible for research and development, engineering, IT. German companies control much more stages, which indicates their strong position in the supply chain. Polish – no. (PAP)
