In an interview for Antena 3 CNN, he acknowledged that his income is double that of the President of Romania and justified this discrepancy through the low level of the head of state.
“Maybe the President of Romania is not paid well enough ”, said Schen, asked why he wins more than Nicușor Dan.
Asked about his high income and if he reflects the work done, Schen replied: “I know that there are laws in Romania, and the respective laws provide certain values, certain indicators. Octavian Schen has been leading the state currency in August 2010, which is almost 15 years old. He started his career in the institution as an electrician, then followed the Academy of Economic Studies, becoming an accountant. He gradually climbed into the hierarchy: he was head of the Human Resource Service, secretary of the Board of Directors, chief accountant, and eventually became general manager.
His salary for 2024 amounts to 681,450 lei, according to official data, compared to 431,491 lei in 2023. Thus, the allowance was greatly increased, reaching a monthly average income of 56,787 lei.
Increasing expenses to state currency
The monetary of the state, subordinated to the National Bank of Romania, spent in 2024 over 36.9 million lei for the salaries of the approximately 230 employees. During the same period, the expenses with the collaborators doubled, from 932,209 lei in 2023 to almost 2 million lei in 2024.
Also, the allowances of the members of the Board of Directors increased spectacular, from 500,717 lei to 2023 to 1,309,484 lei in 2024, almost three times more. Employees also benefit from a retirement bonus equivalent to four classification salaries.
