US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is talking to leaders in Cambodia and Thailand in an attempt to end the conflict in the border areas of the two countries, which has been resulted in at least 33 deaths, AFP reports.
“I just talked to the Prime Minister of Cambodia about stopping the war with Thailand,” said Trump, visiting Scotland, in a post on his Social Truth network.
“I just talked to Thailand's interim prime minister and it was a very good conversation,” the American leader added in a new post.
“Thailand, like Cambodia, wants an immediate armistice and peace,” the US president said.
“Now I will send this message to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. After talking to both sides, cessation of fire, peace and prosperity seem to be natural. We will see soon!”, Donald Trump said.
The tensions broke out around the ancient temples, played for a long time, before the battles expand along the rural region at the border between the two countries, marked by a ridge surrounded by wild jungle and agricultural lands where locals cultivate rubber and rice.
The conflicts, now on the third day, broke out on Saturday in the coastal regions of the two countries, where they meet in the Gulf of Thailand, about 250 kilometers southwest of the main lines of the front.
“I try to simplify a complex situation! Many people are killed in this war, but it reminds me of the conflict between Pakistan and India, which was successfully stopped,” said Trump.
He also indicated that he will not advance in commercial agreements with any of the two nations until the fights will stop.
