“Everything is about the moment of change.” How big is the danger of artificial intelligence to take our jobs

Daniel Dines, the CEO and founder of the Romanian-American IT company, says that, despite the important progress made by artificial intelligence technology (AI) in the last three years, it is not yet able to replace the jobs in numerous industries. But that does not mean that the jobs as we know them will not change, according to him.

“If we are realists now, it is all about the moment of change, not the change itself. Your job and my job have changed over time. The jobs change. Everything is a matter since it will happen and how compressed will be that process of change.

He made this comment after being asked by The Verge journalists about the dismissals made by Uipath last year and how he sees the discussions about AI and opinions that “automation will reach our companies and we will all remain without jobs”.

Dines said that people who analyze artificial intelligence and look at the real cases of use is still waiting to see a large -scale adoption. “Currently, it is a productivity gain, rather a type of assistant. I ask something, I get an answer, I do my job a little faster and better. It has not yet reached the point to really affect huge volumes of the population.”

Dines say that you have advanced systems will change the way jobs look

“I think the” agent “ai is one of the steps towards implementing AI in a rather Enterprise type context, and that could accelerate how the jobs are transformed. What do I mean with that? I think a job, today, is not a simple task. There are very few people whose jobs can be described as a single task. Therefore, a job means a multitude of operational things, repetitive things and many ad-hoc tasks. It depends on different environments and business, ”he said.

The term of agent agents refers to artificial intelligence systems that offer autonomous decision making, with learning and adaptation and advanced reasoning capabilities.

“I think many of the repetitive tasks have already been resolved. We have the technology needed to eliminate, practically, many of them. Now we also have the technology to help people with more of those ad-hoc tasks, such as research. I think the jobs will move to areas where people make decisions.

“People will analyze, make decisions, and then the actions will be completed by working flows from the Enterprise environment, by robots that we already have. So, the jobs will turn more into decision-making, inspections and supervision activities on an order plan,” he explained.

Dismissals at Uipath

StartupCafe remembered last month that in July 2024 UIPATH announced an additional wave of redundancies, which targeted 420 employees, ie 10% of its workforce at international level. The personnel reduction process was scheduled to complete until April 30, 2025.

According to a report published by UIPATH on March 12, the company had total revenues of $ 1.42 billion, in its fiscal year 2025, which ended on January 31, 2025, increasing compared to the previous fiscal year, when it obtained revenues of $ 1.3 billion.

The company remained, but on losses, with 73.69 million net dollars, decreasing from the previous fiscal year, when it registers a net loss of $ 89.88 million.

Immediately after announcing financial results, UIPATH shares, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, decreased by about 15%. Currently, UIPATH titles are traded at a price under $ 10. Currently, the company has dropped as a market value to $ 5.4 billion, far below its maximum level of $ 40 billion, which Uipath reached in May 2021.
