Ukraine has received confirmation from the partners that it will receive three more Patriot missile defense systems and there are discussions for seven more, said Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski on Thursday, according to Reuters and Kyiv Independent.

“I asked for ten,” Zelenski said, adding that Kiev “collaborates with the partners to get them.”

“We received the official confirmation from Germany for two systems and from Norway for one. Currently, we collaborate with the Dutch partners,” said the Ukrainian president.

President Donald Trump announced earlier this month that American weapons worth billions of dollars will be sent to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles. This has triggered negotiations on partners who could contribute to the weapon purchase program a process that will determine Ukraine.

Patriot systems have proven effective in destroying Russian ballistic missiles aimed at the cities of Ukraine.

In addition to ensuring supply with air defense systems, Ukraine must cover a financing deficit of $ 40 billion next year, Zelenski said in a statement issued by his office.

Another $ $ 25 billion will be needed for the production of missiles, drones and electronic war systems, he added.

Why does Ukraine need multiple patriot systems

Unlike cruise missiles, which are powered by reaction and flying engines on a relatively flat trajectory, ballistic missiles are launched at a high altitude in the atmosphere, before turning back to their target.

They are guided only in the initial stages of the launch, so they can be less precise than cruise missiles, but have the advantage of reaching incredibly high speeds, sometimes more than 3,200 kilometers per hour, as they approach their targets.

As such, they are incredibly difficult to intercepted, and the less intercepting, the more devastation causes Russian ballistic missiles.

The manufacturer of the patriotic system rockets, Lockheed Martin, promotes the latest PAC-3 interceptor as “the most advanced air defense missile.”

Unlike its predecessor, PAC-3 uses the “hit-to-kill” technology, destroying the enemy fires by direct contact, instead of based on a fragmentary explosion.

Although its range is shorter, usually between 35 and 50 kilometers, it offers higher precision and is specially designed for high -speed ballistic threats.
