The capital and the Bucharest -Ilfov area remained last year in the top of the regions with the largest compensation paid by insurers for the damages produced by fires and other calamities of goods and properties – housing, commercial spaces, company headquarters or industrial halls, announced on Tuesday the National Union of Insurance Companies (UNS). Thus, the insurers paid in this development region over 180 million lei, 60% more than 2023.
“The capital concentrates an important volume of housing, traffic and economic activity – and, implicitly, of risks. The high value of the paid damages reflect not only the level of exposure, but also the essential role of insurance in the reconstruction of life after an incident. Each damaged damage means a new start for a family or for a business,” Alexandru Ciuncan said.
In 2024, the insurers paid, in total, nationally over 592 million lei only for damages caused by major risks such as fires and natural phenomena.
The risks are no longer concentrated in one place
While Bucharest remains in the top, other regions of the country begin to draw attention through the strong dynamics of damages. In the South-East region, for example, damages for goods and properties doubled in just one year, reaching 58 million lei in 2024.
On the third place in the ranking of the most dynamic increases in damages is the North-East Region, where there was a 44%advance, with total compensation of 49 million lei. The conclusion: the risks are not static, they extend, intensify and affect more and more homes and business.
“The significant increase in damages in several regions indicates a harsh reality: regardless of the area, the risks do not forgive us. Only by the protection offered by an insurance policy, families and companies can cope with major damages, without endangering their future,” added Alina Bărbulescu, specialist goods and property.
A positive signal: Increasing the degree of protection
A great aspect comes from increasing the number of policies concluded to protect goods and properties – both in the residential and entrepreneurial environment, says the Union.
Thus, in 2024, at national level, an increase of 21% from the previous year was registered. This reflects an increasing concern from Romanians and companies to protect themselves in the face of unforeseen events – whether it is fires, storms or other natural calamities.
