The European Commissioner for Justice, Michael McGrath, was shocked by the toxicity and dangers of goods sold on Chinese retail platforms Shein and Temu, The Guardian reports.

12 million low -value packages reach the EU daily from online traders outside the community block. Under these circumstances, Michael McGrath promised to take drastic measures against the sale of goods that flagrantly violates European law.

The European Commissioner is waiting for the results of a “undercover shopping” operation at European level, meant to confirm the existing suspicions that certain Chinese traders intentionally avoid the regulations imposed by the EU.

Among the most serious examples noticed by McGrath are babies with beads that are easily detached and present a suffering risk, because they do not have the regulatory size that allows a baby that accidentally swallows one to continue to breathe.

Other goods found by MEPs include rain pilgrims for children containing toxic chemicals, UV filter -free sunglasses and children's shorts with rifles longer than the regulatory length, which presents a risk of hindrance.

They have also found cosmetics containing methylpropional Butilfenil, also known as Lillal, which is included in the list of “extremely worrying” chemicals by the EU and has been banned from 2022 due to concerns that it affects the fertility and development of the fetus.

“I am shocked by this and I think we have a duty to protect European consumers,” McGrath told The Guardian.
