Record GPS interference in the NATO country. All traces lead to Russia

Why is it important?
GPS interference has serious consequences for the safety and functioning of many sectors. They affect not only Lithuania, but also nearby countries, such as Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
What does the scale of the problem look like?
In June, 1022 cases of GPS interference were reported in Lithuania, which is a significant increase compared to 585 cases in May and 447 in April. A spokeswoman for ORO Navigacija, Ingida Daugirdė, emphasizes that the actual scale of the incidents “can be even greater” because only applications from pilots are recorded.
What did Darius Kuliešius say?
– We identified (in the Królewiec region – ed.) Over ten locations, from which disturbing signals are emitted – said Darius Kuliešius, vice -chairman of the CRA council, who monitors the cases of GPS disturbance.
Do disturbances threaten aviation safety?
According to Daugirdė, GPS interference is burdensome, but they do not pose a direct threat to aviation safety, because pilots can use ground navigation systems. Nevertheless, since the beginning of 2025, eight cases of re -approach to landing due to incorrect GPS data have been reported in Lithuania.
What was the reaction?
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has sent an official letter to Russia with a request for explanations, but has not received an answer so far. The Minister of Communication of Lithuania, Eugenijus Sabutis, emphasizes that Russia's actions have international effects and concern not only airspace. – GPS is common, cheap and comfortable, but we must start implementing mandatory spare systems – noted Sabutis.
