The Minister of Economy says that the tax on gambling “is not a closed subject”: we still have discussions, we see tomorrow what is the final form

The Minister of Economy, Radu Miruţă, said on Sunday night, in a TV show, that the minimum gambling taxation threshold-which according to an initial document of the Government was to increase to 10%, but in the project finally approved by the Executive was reduced to 4%-it is a topic on which the members of the coalition still bears.
“This coalition started from the idea that it had to tax the gambling. Indeed, I knew that the proposed tax is 10%. There are discussions, tomorrow the project is in Parliament, it is not the closed subject, things can be modified. There are discussions that are happening today, which will be held tomorrow, we will see what the final form is.”
“If this figure will be 4% or 10% (we will see) … Yes, the figure I knew is 10%. I understand that there are still discussions between the coalition members and let's see tomorrow, until 3:00 pm, which is the form that the Government will take responsibility,” he insisted.
“The government sees the amendments proposed by the parliamentarians, it is found in a meeting tomorrow before the arrival in the Parliament, we analyze the proposals made by the parliamentarians. So it will be a final discussion tomorrow around 12: 00-13: 00,” explained the Minister of Economy, Radu Miruţă.
The tax on gambling earnings of up to 10,000 lei would increase from 3% at present to only 4% – as the Government has established in the draft law with fiscal measures that it approved on Friday in the meeting and for which to take responsibility in Parliament on Monday. However, in the initial draft law, posted on Thursday in public debate on the website of the Ministry of Finance, provided an increase to 10% of the tax.

In the initial draft law on some fiscal-budgetary measures, there was a increase in the income tax obtained at gambling in the case of amounts of up to 10,000 lei from 3% to 10%.
Subsequently, in the document approved on Friday, the threshold was lowered to 4%.

Including the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, referred to the increase of the fiscal for gambling in the conference organized on Friday at the Government.
“We increase the authorization fees and all the other related gambling fees in a very important amount. At the authorization they grow up with an amount of almost 30%, but the increases are on the line for both games and players. Players who have up to 10,000 lei will be withheld from 3% to 10% and we want to give a very important signal. I am harmful, ”says Nazare.
Currently, the income from gambling is taxed by restraint at the source as follows: up to 10,000 lei inclusive, by 3%; over 10,000 lei – 66,750 lei inclusive, with 300 lei + 20% for what exceeds 10,000 lei; over 66,750 lei, with 11,650 lei + 40% for what exceeds the amount of 66,750 lei.
