Tikhon is quiet
On this day, the Orthodox Church honor the memory of St. Tikhon.
Different beliefs are associated with the name of Tikhon in Rus', allowing him to call his day quiet. For example, it was believed that singing birds begin to subside from this date – only the nightingale continues to sing until Petrov's day. The animals also go quietly – they bury in the holes.
They also said: “The sun goes quietly on Tikhon.” Surprisingly, this observation was confirmed by modern science: according to the calculations of astronomers, by the end of June the earth reduces the speed of movement in orbit – compared to January 1.
On Tikhon in the villages, Toloki was often arranged – the so -called fever for workers, who were invited in order to disappear the fields. The workers were treated to dinner and wine, and the feast continued until the evening, turning to games, songs and dances. It is believed that Toloki had previously been arranged in order to help poor families – so that they receive a decent reward and good rest for their work.
Among other things, St. Tikhon was turned to the dental pain for help. During the prayer they said such words: “St. Tikhon, Use, Lord, illness and all ailments tooth!”
