Two climate activists sprinkled with red paint the facade of the Sagrada Cathedral of the Barcelona family, on Sunday, to protest the lack of action in the context of the “climatic crisis” that favored, according to environmentalists, the recent forest fires that devastated Spain, AFP reports.
In a video recording distributed on the social networks of Futuro Vegetable, two activists of this association can be seen while they were detained by the Security agents after they were painted with the bottom of a column in the structure of the famous cathedral, as they shouted: “Climatic justice!”.
“Through this protest, our ecological collective denounces the absence of the measures taken by the Spanish government against the climatic crisis and its repercussions on the fires that devastated the Iberian Peninsula and much of Europe this summer,” explained the Futuro Vegetable Organization in a statement.

Sagrada Familia Cathedral, designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), but still unfinished, is one of the main tourist attractions of Barcelona.
Spain faced in August a wave of dramatic vegetation fires, which resulted in the deaths of four people and devastated over 350,000 hectares.
These fires represent “one of the largest environmental catastrophes” that the Iberian country has known in recent years, according to the left government in Madrid, which has linked their magnitude to climate change.
In recent years, futuro vegetable has organized dozens of similar protests, denounced as acts of vandalism by numerous museums, including one in 2022, when its activists have stuck their hands with an adhesive substance of the frames of the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya at the Prado Museum in Madrid.
