The Memoranda of Russia and Ukraine regarding an agreement on a truce are completely opposing, but there are negotiations to bring the positions closer – said Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Friday. He announced the organization of the third round of conversations between Moscow and Kiev.

“As you would expect, these are two absolutely opposing Memoranda, but negotiations are organized and conducted to find ways to bring positions. The fact that they are exactly opposing is not surprising,” said Putin.
He stated that the plans are to organize the third round of talks of the delegation of Russia and Ukraine, although the date is currently unknown. He added that Istanbul may be a possible place of subsequent negotiations.
“In general, we are ready for this, we must agree on the place and time. I hope that the President of the Turkish Republic Recep Erdogan will remain with his position on the support of this process,” said the Russian leader.
“We are ready to organize such a meeting in Istanbul. When exactly – this is what the bosses of negotiating groups are on both sides. They are with each other in constant operational contact, they call each other. Now they agree with each other the date of the next meeting” – said Putin and emphasized that conversations should apply primarily to the Memorands presented by both parties.
Putin also announced that he is ready to return the bodies of 3,000 to Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war with Russia.
On Thursday, the press spokesman of the Kremlin Dmitry Pieskov reported that the term of the third round of peace negotiations will be scheduled after the entire process of exchanging prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia.
Pieskov issued this message after another exchange of prisoners. The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski reported that Ukrainian soldiers returned to the country, detained in captivity since 2022.
Until now, two negotiations between Ukraine and Russia took place – both in Istanbul, May 16 and June 2. The conversations led to a series of exchanges of prisoners of war and the return of the bodies of fallen soldiers. Both sides also exchanged memorands regarding the agreement on the suspension of weapons, but besides, no steps were taken towards the conclusion of the room.
At a press conference in Minsk, Putin also said that relations between Russia and the United States were beginning to stabilize and assigned this to the efforts of US President Donald Trump. He noted that he has “great respect” for Trump and is ready to meet him.
“Thanks to President Trump, relations between Russia and the United States begin to normalize in a sense. Not everything has been established in the sphere of diplomatic relations, but the first steps were taken and we are moving forward” – said the Russian leader. (PAP)
