A Christian church in the Syrian capital Damascus was on Sunday the target of a suicide attack by a member of the Jihadist group the Islamic State (ISIS) and which resulted, according to a provisional balance, with at least 20 dead and over 50 injured, informs France Presse and Reuters.
According to the Ministry of Interior by Syria, a suicidal attacker affiliated ISIS entered the church of Saint Elijah in the Dweila neighborhood of Damascus, opened the fire and then detonated an explosive belt.
It is the first such attack in the Syrian capital since the forces led by Islamists have overturned former President Bashar al-Assad, in December last year, the Security being still one of the biggest challenges for the new authorities.
