The leader of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, said on Thursday that the militant organization “will act as it is appropriate” in the context of the war in progress between its main ally, Iran, and Israel, according to AFP.

“We are not neutral in this conflict between two regional powers,” Qassem said in a statement, adding that Hezbollah “will act as it considers it necessary in the face of this Israeli-American aggression.”

The statement comes after the US special envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, warned Hezbollah not to intervene in the war.

After meeting with the President of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, a close ally of Hezbollah, Thomas Barrack was asked what could happen if the group had intervened in the regional conflict.

“I can say in the name of President Donald Trump, who was very clear, as was the special envoy Steve Witkoff: it would be a very, very, very bad decision,” Barrack said in front of journalists, according to Reuters.

Hezbollah has condemned Israel's attacks on Iran and expressed his full solidarity for the leadership of Tehran. On Thursday, the organization warned that threats to the Supreme Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will have “serious consequences”.

However, the group has not launched explicit threats on an intervention. After Israel began to hit Iran, last week, a Hezbollah official told Reuters that the organization would not launch its own attack on Israel as a reaction.

Hezbollah was seriously weakened after last year's war with Israel, in which the group leadership was decimated, thousands of fighters were killed, and important bastions in the south of Lebanon and near Beirut were seriously affected.

The termination agreement agreement intermediated by the United States, which has ended that conflict, stipulates that the Lebanese government must guarantee that there are no weapons outside the state control.

Thomas Barrack met on Thursday with Lebanon president Joseph Aoun, with whom he discussed the need for the state to hold the monopoly on the armament.

Barrack is a private capital investor, Donald Trump's long -term counselor and former chairman of the President's inauguration committee in 2016. He was appointed ambassador to Turkey, and at the end of May he also took the position to be sent to Syria.
