The Ministry of Communications of Iran states that restrictions aim to prevent threats from the “enemy”, according to the BBC.
In a statement broadcast by Iranian media, the ministry accused Israel of “abusive use of the national communications network for military purposes.”
However, the services and platforms of internal communications “remain accessible”, the same source said.
On Wednesday, the Iranian platform of Digital Nobitex exchange exchange, which trades cryptocurrencies, has ceased its activity after facing “a threat to the Security”, Iranian media reported.
Cryptocurrencies are increasingly considered in Iran as a way to keep value and maintain transactions in the context of financial instability in the country.
The incident follows a cyber attack on the sepah bank, related to the armed forces, from the Group of Hacktivists Prededory Sparrow, which also claimed the attack on Nobitex. The group stated that the platform was involved in avoiding sanctions and financing terrorism. Iran believes that Predatory Sparrow has connections with Israel.
Another Iranian bank, Pasargad, was also the target of an attack today.
Government spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani said today that public funds are safe.
