Currant for many is one of the favorite berry crops, but for insects it is a real delicacy. Aphids, a kidney tick, a firing and a glass can not only spoil the crop, but also loosen the bushes for years to come. Most pests can be fought without chemistry using proven folk and biological methods.
Aphid on currant
Signs: twisted upper leaves, small green insects on shoots, slow growth.
What to do:
- Spray the bushes with garlic infusion (200 g of crushed garlic per 10 liters of water, insist 2 days)
- The infusion of ash with soap works well (1 cup of ash and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap per 10 l of water)
- Plant a calendula nearby, dill or garlic scare off apart
Currant fireworm
Signs: Berries rot directly on the bushes when caterpillars are being started inside.
What to do:
- After flowering, spray the bush with tabal dust or wormwood infusion
- In the fall, be sure to sneak and burn the fallen leaves where the pupae winter
- A good result gives a digging soil under the bush so that the larvae be killed from the cold
Pendant tick
Signs: round, swollen buds in the spring; The bush is developing poorly, the berries are smaller.
What to do:
- In autumn and early spring, remove and burn suspicious kidneys manually
- Before the kidney bloom, pour boiling water on the bush (not higher than 80–90 degrees)
- can be sprayed with infusion of onion husks or celandine
Currant glass
Signs: The shoots fade and easily break, and dark caterpillars settled inside.
What to do:
- Cut and burn the affected shoots with a black core
- Do not allow the thickening of the bush, as the glass loves the shadow and damp
- At the beginning of summer, tie the base of the stems with a fabric impregnated with resin or tar soap to scare away the butterflies
Prevention
The best way to protect:
- Proper pruning, loosening of the soil, weed removal
- measured watering (without waterlogging)
- Planting a number of repellent plants: onions, garlic, calendula, velvet
- Processing with boiling water and infusion of ash with soap in spring.
Fighting currant pests without chemistry is really and effective if you do it regularly and comprehensive. It is important not to wait until the pests apply to all the bushes, but to act ahead of the lead. Then the currant will delight a plentiful and healthy crop.
