Editorial Gabi Glăvan: We know

In a country that has gone through many uncertainties in its history, a single certainty has remained standing, regardless of time: that we know.

Today, there is not much man to ask about a subject and not to master. From pandemias, medicine, local and international policies to football, Romanians have an unusual safety in statements and knowledge. About football, for a country for which the ball has no secret, it is strange that we do not dominate at European and world level. As we are accustomed, someone hides us something, but we find out, as we do every time.

talent

For us, talent is a given. The Romanian is born talented in football, but someone sabotages him. The coaches, the injuries, the state, the money and the misfortune are part of a coalition meant to stop the Romanian development.

There are 5 factors, unimportant for us, but valid for other less talented peoples, which make talent develop:

  • the environment from which the individual comes;
  • access to good training conditions;
  • access to quality coaches;
  • sufficiently good adversity, adapted to the development stage;
  • the opportunity to have these things in the vicinity of the familiar environment.

Interesting, but inefficient. Who has time and money to invest in this? It can go to others, but not to us. Why would I invest such resources in a product already finished? Talent does not develop in us, talent is born. We have so many examples of former great footballers who ate Cașcaval Pane and perform 30-40 years ago. The world can have changed, but talent does not. The strangest is that a certain Rasmus Ankersen mentioned in “The Gold Me Effect” a few world talent outbreaks, but he didn't say. How much ignorance!

Education

Why invest in something meaningless? If we know, what do we need to know? What secrets to hide football for us, when I 31 years ago did a quarter of a world champion? Only the bad luck and the universe made us not qualify. I was always close to something, but, as we know, the Romanian anti-talent coalition did its job and kept us unfairly. The quarters of the world have also made Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Switzerland, Poland, Ireland, South Korea (even semi -final) and friends last week, Austria. However, they are not Romanian and talented. Honest!

In other news, I attended a strange situation for me, as a Romanian: to see one of the courses I took a 70 -year -old, coach Ariel Jacobs. He had not worked for 7 years and had taken a position of technical director at a club in the first Belgian league, Oh Leuven. He mentioned that he is present in the course to document himself in relation to the latest practices. Absurd.

For a man who was a coach at the Belgian nationals, Anderlecht (238 matches!) And at FC Copenhagen, it seems an important step, but it's non-sensible for us. Why would I educate myself if I have already worked for a few years? As a former colleague told me: “Gabi, football is on the field, not on the computer!”.

The computer

This modern object, useful only for Excel and Mail, does not have its place in football. Why generate reports or introduce some Big Date in Python when can I just watch football?

Several years ago I made the mistake, as an analyst, to stay with the laptop on the bench at a Liga 1 team I was operating. I was pointing out that the players are a little disturbed and it would be best not to. I, who I wanted to show them patterns of opponents, did not realize that we already knew …

Liverpool employee on Laurie Shaw, a specialist in computational astrophysics and data analysis. Graduate of Harvard and Yale, who also passed to City, came to analyze game patterns and potential transfers. If they have not had our talent, they do everything they can stop missing so much. Wirtz knows everyone; What need to have astro when we already know that he was born on May 3? It's bull!

Adaptation

Football, 30-40 years ago, was equal to everyone. The “native” technique solves the match. Each good team, be it national or club, had at least one exceptional player, a number 10 in general. Number 10 developed, migrated and disappeared. For them, the number 10 is a role. For us, it's a status. Grealish has 10 on his back, but he is not in the lot at City. Arsenal already given to Fulham (Smith-Rowe) and Chelsea has suspended him (Mudryk). Nor does Barcelona play (Fati).

The signs are there, football has changed. Only we consider it the same. In a serious tone: we are talented, but we are not adapted. The development has led to the transformation of individual values into territorial values, tactically adapted by innovation and space exploitation. Superiority is not only technical, it is zonal and main. Possession is not a desire, it is a consequence.

Recent discussions about the national team and our comparison with some Red Bull academies are crazy. Chivu is Romanian, but he is formed at Ajax. Drăgușin is Romanian, but he is formed at Juventus. The best right defender in Spain is not formed by us. It's not about the national team, it's about the development of juniors. The match did not play today, played 10 years ago, when Schmid, Laimer or Seiwald were in different stages of development compared to ours.

The junior is the most important process that we can pay attention if we want to have results in seniors. Austria does not just dominate us, he dominates us to know how. After all, they know, but if we pay attention and we will have patience, we will learn to exploit a potential that has a future only if we build a present.
